An original style, an acutely precise dance, a cross between multiple styles and practices, from hip hop to classical dance: Yoko Omori, a young Japanese artist, is the winner of the second award of the seventh edition of the Danse élargie competition and arrives in Rovereto thanks to a collaboration between Oriente Occidente and the Theatre de La Ville in Paris.

In Rovereto - where she spent a period creating after winning the 2022/23 call for a residency - she worked on a solo that she is presenting at the Festival in a work-in-progress version, which emphasises her intimate and nonconformist research that pays special attention to the relationship between choreography, improvisation and her own sound material.

An extraordinary performer, Yoko Omori plays with unpredictability through a combination of movements and theatrical expressions associated with a sound environment with a comic note.

Omori's choreography as complex and precise as it is unique. As she tries to navigate the complex stream of thoughts in her head (…) our empathy for her is immediate.
