Making an entrance

A key text for viewing dance as a cross-disciplinary art form that embraces diversity while opening new experiential, educational, and performative horizons. It is an essential reading for anyone wishing to reflect on some of the most pressing artistic and educational challenges the world of dance is called to face with increasing courage and freedom. Written by Adam Benjamin about 20 years ago, Making an Entrance is more relevant than ever in terms of vision and content and is now available in Italian. Benjamin's invitation—now shared by an international community of artists—is to venture into the open territory of a practice that integrates both disabled and non-disabled dancers on an equal footing, where diverse bodies engage in dialogue, exploring their differences rather than negating them. The book will be presented by the author alongside Monica Morselli, a dance therapist, DanceAbility instructor, and curator of the Italian translation for Cue Press.

Adam Benjamin is the co-founder and artistic director of CandoCo Dance Company from 1991 to 1998. During this time, he created numerous choreographies and contributed to developing teaching in collaboration with Celeste Dandeker-Arnold and the company's dancers. He has choreographed for companies worldwide, including Vertigo Dance Company, Scottish Dance Theatre, and StopGap. In South Africa, after the dismantling of apartheid, he founded the award-winning Tshwaragano Dance Company, the first integrated dance company in South Africa. He is also an artistic consultant for Integrated Dance Company-Kyo in Japan. He has received numerous awards, including a London TimeOut Performance Award, the Sainsbury's Award for Education, and a Prudential Award (with CandoCo).
