Participation, rights, and digital humanism.

The "Network" is an extraordinary means of sharing knowledge, but it can also generate new monopolies of power. In an era where much of our lives have moved online, a new challenge emerges: reconciling technology and democracy. There is a path to achieve this: Big Democracy, characterized by the informed participation of citizens and technology that serves society. This dialogue focuses on digital rights and data as common goods, reminding us that technology can help us solve concrete problems only if it is put at the service of people and directed toward the great challenges of today, foremost among them climate change and social justice.

Francesca Bria is the President of the National Innovation Fund - CDP Venture Capital SGR. Previously, she served as the Commissioner for Digitalization and Innovation for the city of Barcelona, Spain, and is a Senior Consultant for the United Nations on smart cities. She is also a Senior Adviser on technology, innovation, and digital policy for the European Commission and a member of the High-Level Expert Group on the economic and social impact of innovation (ESIR). Additionally, Bria is the founder of the DECODE project, a consortium of six countries working on data sovereignty solutions in Europe, and an Honorary Professor at the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose at the Global University College (UCL) in London.
