Shusaku and Dormu Dance Theatre is a group inspired by traditional Japanese theatre, the No and Kabuki, and is interested in the unconscious and the power of the image as a means of expressing inner feelings. The group was created by Shusaku Takeuchi, who came to Europe in 1974 after several years of study at the Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts, where he was mainly interested in ‘body-art’.

Since its inception, the company has regularly created one new show per year, not counting the numerous shows held in the streets. The show that will be presented in Rovereto (ERA) is a theatrical collage with many images that often represent the dreams of an abnormal psychology. They describe the deformation of nature and the perverse ‘desire’ of human instinct confronted with the end of the world.

Starting from basic images and structures created by Shusaku, each improvises other images and structures around the original one. The piece thus evolves into a whole, creating a light spectrum of dramatic visions and inner expressions.

In the same way, the musicians work and create a rich fabric of sounds, structures and movements to accompany the stage action.
