FIRST NATIONAL
BMX, short for Bicycle Moto Cross, originated in California in the late 1960s. In the following decades, it quickly spread across Europe, attracting many freestyle biking enthusiasts—featuring jumps, obstacle navigation, and tricks on ramps—among whom is Vincent Warin, the French champion and world vice-champion of the sport. For over ten years, Warin has been active in the French theatrical scene, making BMX an 'artistic' discipline. Known for his virtuosic and solo performances in shows by Blanca Li, Collectif AOC, and Cirque Baroque, Vincent Warin founded his company, Cie 3.6/3.4, in 2006 with Pierre-Jean Carthes. They produce performances that blend BMX with contemporary dance, circus, theater, and live music. This mixture of high-level sport and artistic aesthetics has made the group unique and allowed a broad audience to be thrilled by their performances.
The latest show, which will have its Italian premiere in Rovereto, is titled Ecotone, a term that defines the transitional space between two neighboring ecosystems. In this case, there are actually three ecosystems on stage, as Warin performs with his freestyle bicycle alongside Simon Demouveaux on electric guitar and dancer-acrobat Adèle Alaguette, as they attempt to engage in dialogue between their distant worlds. "In the show," Warin explains, "the desire to move forward together unfolds. The three protagonists are a metaphor for our world and all the small worlds that belong to us. Between attraction and repulsion, between the desire for sharing, points of fusion, and inevitable frictions, we present the ecosystems of our mysterious existence." The audience will then notice how the nuclei will form and divide, how the individual will dominate over the others, and how, conversely, it will blend with the group in an unpredictable and symbolic game of combinations.
